How You Can Help Someone Who is Struggling

  • Remain non-judgmental

  • Listen to the person experiencing the feelings

  • Give the person your full attention

  • Take any suicidal threat seriously

  • Ensure that person is not left alone

  • Offer to accompany them to an emergency or crisis service If you believe an individual is at immediate risk of harm to themselves, or that they need immediate formal intervention:

  • If you are unsure, but suspect someone is having suicidal thoughts, ask them!

Get help

  • Refer the person to resources

  •  Call 911 if they refuse help

  • Take threats of suicide seriously
