Mysterious Barricades Musical Fundraiser
On the evening of Friday, July 28th, the Mysterious Barricades Society hosted a fundraiser at Campus Saint-Jean in Edmonton. The Society’s main objective is to help mitigate the effects of mental illness and the stigma of suicide through the beauty of music; to break through the mysterious barricades that too often exist between mental illness and health. On September 10th, a series of Mysterious Barricades concerts will be given at 16 locations all across this massive country of ours. All will feature world-class musicians giving of their talent for this important cause. As we are partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association as well as the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention, Mental Health experts will speak at each concert, apprising audience members of the resources that are available as well as enlightening people as to the most effective ways to speak to someone in crisis. All of these concerts will be live-streamed as one continuous seamless 21-hour event coming from 16 locations from Sunrise in Newfoundland to Sunset in Victoria. If it’s anything like last year’s event, many lives will be changed and, possibly, saved. In fact in 2016, 16,000 people viewed the concerts from 45 different countries. The genesis of this event was the recent loss of some very dear musical friends to suicide – this is our response. Please help us help others who may be in crisis.
The technical aspects of the above-mentioned event are very expensive. We are again turning to music to help us raise funds to make this possible. On the evening of Friday, July 28th, the Mysterious Barricades Concert Society hosted the Canta-Decanta concert – you guessed it, fine song paired with fine wine (and yes, there were fine cheeses as well!). Arias and duets from various countries were paired with fine wine from the same country by our very own Sommelier, Dr. Rob Agostinis. Performers include some of the finest singers/musicians you will hear anywhere: Elizabeth Turnbull, Jihwan Cho, Sherry Steele, Aidan Ferguson, Leanne Regehr. A marvellous concert indeed!
Thank you friends!
Whereas the event was a complete success, very fitting of the September 10 event, we still need extra funding in order to successfully run this years Cross-Country concert.
